After all was said and done we had a great event! Many games were played and there were a few happy winners of tons of raffle prizes!

We raised almost $950 for Child’s Play!

Thank you to everyone who helped out, to our sponsors for their donations, and to everyone who came to play games for the kids!

Prizes galore!

I am pleased to announce that we have a few more sponsors on board!

- Nintendo has graciously donated a 3DS and game for our raffle

- Staples has indicated they will be supporting our event with donations

- Penny Arcade has donated some merchandise for auction/raffle

- Individual donors have put in a Murkablo World of Warcraft pet (loot card), and rare items from other conventions

So we have gotten some support from Penny Arcade (gotta love those guys).  They have graciously offered some merchandise as donations for our raffle and auctions.

We are still looking for other items for both the raffle and auction, so if you are willing to help us out or know of someone who might, please contact me!

Calling all hands!

So in preparation of this event, I am going to need some assistance in two ways…

Item Donations
Since we plan to have a 50/50 raffle, item raffle, and silent auction, we will definitely need items to be raffled and auctioned off!  If you have anything you might be willing to donate, or work for a company that may be inclined to help out, please let me know!

Volunteers
With the above in mind, I will also need some help during the event in taking money at the door, selling 50/50 and raffle tickets, selling food/drinks as available, and watching over the auction items.  I would not expect a single person to give up their entire time to working, but if you would be willing to give a few hours during the event to doing one or more of these duties, please let me know and I will put together a schedule of about 1-2 hour shifts (depending on the # of volunteers).

What is Child’s Play


For those of you who are not familiar with Child’s Play, here is some information!

History

Child’s Play was founded in 2003 by Mike Krahulik and Jerry Holkins of the online comic strip Penny Arcade, which concerns itself with video games and gamer culture. In response to the media’s negative portrayal of gamers, the pair called for the gaming community to donate to Seattle Children’s Hospital during the holiday season.

The response was overwhelming - within weeks, they had a garage packed full of toys, games, and gifts to brighten the holiday of many sick kids. That year, they raised over $250,000; a number that has grown each year; up to nearly $10 million as of 2010. The gaming community comes together to raise millions of dollars, put together hundreds of community fundraisers, and change the lives of countless children.

Mission and Goals

Child’s Play is dedicated to improving the lives of children in hospitals around the world through the kindness and generosity of the video game community and the power of play.

Child’s Play is always striving to pursue new opportunities and expand the positive impact of the cause. This includes consistently researching and pursuing alternate fundraising channels, new donation platforms, additional events and better community support.

Details:
$5 entry at the door, gets you in for a variety of tabletop, console, and PC games.  There are multiple tables available for trading card and table top games.  We will have some board games available for rent, and the Magic Stronghold specializes in Magic: The Gathering as well as other trading card games and have an excellent staff available to help you build a deck if desired!  We may also have tournaments with prizes, depending on availability.

There will be snacks and refreshments available for purchase, 50/50 draws, raffles, silent auctions, and more to come!
